Here's the gist of the problem: too generous state worker union pensions. I wouldn't be surprised that these pensions are extensively re-done to drastically cut its cost in order to reduce state budget deficits.
Yup, the collapse of the economy (and therefore many people's 401k's and other retirement nest eggs) coupled with the continuation of cutting taxes and giving massive tax cuts (often times almost identical in size to the cuts to social programs, hmm...) to corporations who don't pay their taxes in the first place had NOTHING to do with it.
People like this really make me angry.

To be honest I have never seen that in the UK or in Finland.
Must be an American thing.
That and No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service. (so much for never turning away customers)
As if the shite that you carry in on the bottom of your foot is any worse than the shite you carry in on the bottom of your shoe.

When will these companies stop bitching over this! I shop at Target all the time for DVDs, iTunes selling those movies is not going to change this. If I want the DVD, I will buy the DVD. Seriously, this is like them complaining over Pay Per View or Rental stores. Get over yourself! This is corporate America... monopolies are not going to be supported by the masses. Competition is a good thing. These companies need to start putting the consumer first and themselves second.

You ain't kidding. I drive by an Apple Store every morning for work, and there are always the same three Asian college - age students waiting outside 3 hours before opening. I assume they're there everyday hoping a new shipment came in overnight. I'm in the wrong line of work.
Well, every morning I try to go get iPad a bunch of white people are out there and you know some are selling them on EBay.
Damn white people

True. If only it supported reading usb flash drives, I could abandon my laptop except for syncing. So instead, I got an iPod.

What I am saying is - if SJ wants to sell his computer to the sub 20-year-old community, he better get his prices down. Because even though I could work my tail off at work, and earn enough money to buy a mac, a mac still might not be worth it. For example, if apple sold a dual 1.5 GHz 970 in addition to the current line-up for $10,000, it still wouldn't be worth $10,000 for me because that equates to ~1,170 hours of work for me. If I was a extremely well off person, and money wasn't an issue, the computer would be worth the money.
So, basically what I am saying is Apple needs to get down their prices in order to sell their high end systems to people who want them but don't have the highest paycheck.

How long can the limited supply situation be true though? I mean we're talking Intel here they must have huge amounts of manufacturing capability being ramped up for these chips. Possibly even being switched away from the production of Yonahs.
I guess we'll see. It's literally anyone's guess.
Yeah, usually a shortage today means a surplus tomorrow. And I still have yet to see or read any tangible evidence of this shortage. Intel is very forthcoming about such shortages and they have said NOTHING. Every major PC manufacturer, even Apple with their C2D iMac systems, are shipping 2.33GHz C2D chips just as fast as anything else. All the rumors of delays are complete bunk. The people squaking over Dell's web site showing 10 to 17 days to ship a C2D XPS notebook are obviously uneducated in the ways of Dell. It always takes them 7 to 24 days to ship a system.. Always. And adjusting your CPU choice on those systems makes no difference to the ship date.
In other words, there is no shortage and no reason to even consider a shortage as a reason for the delay. Other forces are at work here... Be it Apple pride, stupidity, heat problems or just a genuine deisre to totally mind-****** their customers, Apple knows what they're doing.

And where is Jetblue in all of this???
I wondered the same thing. JetBlue seems like an innovator, and if anyone is going to actually hit this launch date, it would be them.
i suspect the issue is their deal with directtv. just my guess.

It says "MacBook" updates at this event. I hope that wasn't a typo! :D
It is not a typo, but look at the full statement: There have been rumors of Aperture updates and possibly MacBook updates at this event.
You have neglected two key words, "rumors" and "possibly." Those two words in combination like that shouldn't get your hopes up that much for a MacBook update. :(

Am I missing something here? The whole point of a dock adaptor is so that you can have a dock for your laptop ready and waiting for you on your desk where you can have all of your TBolt, USB 3, USB 2 and displays all sitting ready and waiting. The presence of a dock adaptor doesn't necessarily mean that the laptop itself won't have it's own USB2/3, TBolt ports or whatever. No docking computer has ever got rid of all of the on-laptop ports in the past and Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did. It would be a total non-starter.

This was one of the most handy little apps that I lost when OS X hit the scene. Super intuitive, super effective.
I have Peak and Pro Tools and neither handle those simple, everyday audio needs like a SoundEdit 16 could.
I very much think there is an audience for Soundbooth and that it will be well received. Based on my experienced with SoundEdit 16, if Soundbooth were Universal, I'd more than likely purchase... immediately.
